Publishers’ red cloth with decoration and vignettes in black and gilt to spine and upper board. Spine sunned with minor loss head & tail of spine and wear to corners and top edge. A shaken copy, cracked at inner hinge but holding. Endpapers toned otherwise contents clean and bright; no annotation or inscriptions. Frintis & guard detached but undamaged.
Biography of the eccentric country squire, famed for his “hunting, racing, shooting, driving and extravagant exploits” such as riding a bear around the drawing-room, and his tragic demise following an attempt to cure hiccups by setting alight his nightshirt. Scarce.
